Things I Have Learned The Hard Way

Artist statement: I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and eating disorder, and severe depression. My brain is neurodiverse because of trauma, I have voices that live in my head permanently and that I can't get away from. I've been in a high-security psychiatric hospital since January last year. The attached artwork is what the worst of C-PTSD feels like. 

You've worked your tail off to get all the colour back into your life, and it's bright and beautiful and it feels like you've found the light again. 
And then suddenly, the trauma takes hold, and you're back in that impenetrable cage, deep in a dark but familiar pit. My voices taunt me, like ghosts flashing past you wailing at you. It's like you're trapped in a cage made of impenetrable, messy, tangled tree roots that are your past. They curl over inwards so that you could never climb out. Living with C-PTSD is so hard because your brain is ineherently structured on your trauma. It affects your entire life in every way. It's inescapable. 
I can't explain it better than that, or better than the painting attached. So there it is.
