La maison de mon père Amnésie #2 by Aoun Oliver
Photography
Artist statement: In my artistic practice, I focus on re-appropriating personal and collective archives and vernacular photographs, which I then deconstruct and reconstruct through a process of research to create new segments, objects, and forms of representation. These works take the form of prints, installations, and videos, challenging dominant narratives and power structures, and seeking to think modern representation. Through this process, I raise questions about the
policies and techniques of representation within contemporary art, utilizing research and theories of contemporary art to create poetic works that encourage critical reflection on the complex interplay between image, text, and meaning. My aim is to engage with broader social and political issues that underlie our visual culture and to offer new perspectives on the complex relationships between space, technology, and representation. My work seeks to provide a critical and alternative perspective on contemporary representation and to create a space for reflection on the ways in which images are produced, disseminated, and consumed in our current cultural climate.
