Wouldn't it be nice? by Claire Campbell

Artist statement: I am submitting this artwork for the autistic children that I teach. In some ways their autism is disabling for them but it is far more disabling that the society that they are expected to live in is not set up for them. I have taken pictures of common play equipment being engaged with by children and juxtaposed these images with ways in which one of my pupils enjoys interacting with this equipment. I hope that the more people see different play styles and ways of engaging, the more chance there is of viewing these differences as equally valid. Towards the end of the video we see juxtapositioning of commonality rather than difference... 'wouldn't it be nice?'
