Artist statement: Izzy Lawrence is a multidiscipline artist who explores the relationship she has with her chronically ill body, identity as a young woman and her keen interest in the natural world. Living with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Anxiety, Izzy navigates her diagnosis within her artistic expression in both traditional and digital formats. Switching between the two very different mediums, Izzy can create artwork even on her very worst days as she has learnt to adapt the mediums to fit into her dynamic needs. Having used nearly every traditional format, Izzy is particularly experienced in acrylic painting, lino printing, embroidery, fabrics and fineliner/pencil based drawing. Alongside traditional art formats, she uses an iPad with the programme Procreate to draw and paint digitally, a format that is one of her greatest strengths. Izzy explores all realms of natural imagery, with a particular focus on plant life and insects, using fine details to depict them.
