Artist statement: I am a Margate based artist making works on paper that explore and articulate my research and the maelstrom of images that enter my daily life. Using writing, drawing and linocut, I aim to make inexpensive work that is useful, inclusive, and shoots a sideways look at art history, politics and supermarkets.

My work is lifted directly from my daily life and fed by my education in Art Theory and Philosophy. I see myself as a recorder, whether the images come from books, tv, or from walking around; they are seen through the same lens and put down on paper in the same way. I would describe the resulting work as boring to the point of comedy - I try to show things as they are and not how they seem.

I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was around 10 years old when I discovered self harm. While at school I kind of rattled around undiagnosed, just pissing people off! Over the years I’ve been diagnosed with a range of disorders from OCD to Bipolar, but I’ve learned to manage my symptoms by making art and living slowly... I also suffer with PCOS so spend a lot of time complaining about random aches and back pain.
As a result of all this I sit around in bed a lot, the works I am submitting are an attempt to apply my philosophy as an artist to my daily life in an honest way. Using ink and brush, I made drawings of the view from my bed from memory in the studio. This is a new way of working for me, my usual style is much more rigid! I feel like the subject pushed me to use the media in a different way, the drawings imitating the feeling of pulling the images from my memory.
