Artist statement: I call this piece ‘Teaspoons’ because it is what I always think about whenever I’m having a flare up and life has to pause again. Early on, the teaspoon theory saved my sanity when I could barely make it to the bottom of our garden, nevermind consider leaving the house – when I worried I would never get any better.
As the theory goes, we all have a certain number of teaspoons of energy a day. A teaspoon might be emptying the dishwasher, or it might be playing in the garden. You decide. What you’re able to accomplish with your teaspoon can change over time – but once you’ve used them up, you’re done.
And although you can occasionally borrow some energy from tomorrow, inevitably you will crash if you don’t accept the limitations of your allowance.
Three teaspoons is a good place to start.
