Artist statement: Dealing with MDD since I was 8 years old, I have always tried to raise mental health awareness. Recently, I was shamed for taking medication for depression and anxiety and that was my clue to talk about this experience in my work. I decided to use capsules directly in the work and then dedicated this to all Iranians who are going through a lot. I wrote the word “bear” on pieces of paper and filled a thousand capsules with them. If only any medication remotely close to this existed for them in this unbearable time and for me and whoever struggles with depression especially genetic and treatment-resistant depression. If only medication could cure depression like an infection.
